More and more media outlets and newspapers are suing yet another AI company that is now passionate about the misuse of texts, news, and copyrighted works, obviously fed to their artificial intelligence models. The New York Times, in fact, has recently joined the list of actors suing Perplexity AI, a company that is quite popular when it comes to complaints about copyright infringement.

It is no secret that the company (presumably) regularly uses content that does not belong to it to train LLMs under development and updating. In fact, it has been the subject of several legal investigations, partly due to issues relating to the trademarks of various media organizations.

The ultimate goal of this wave of lawsuits is not simply to demonstrate injustice, but rather a hopeful push toward a solution that could benefit everyone: encouraging AI companies to officially obtain licenses for content in order to compensate creators and maintain the economic viability of original journalism.
