Wizards of the Coast, the famous company behind the giants "Magic: The Gathering" and "Dungeons & Dragons," seems to have a troubled relationship with artificial intelligence.

In the summer of 2023, an image contained within one of the role-playing game manuals mentioned was discovered to be generated through AI; during November 2023, a promotional image for a collaboration with the Lara Croft franchise ended up in the spotlight for the same reason. To clarify the situation and put an end to these improprieties, WoTC issued an official communication on December 19 asking all its collaborators (artists, writers, and creatives) to refrain from using this technology.

On January 4, however, a post on X showed how this communication was ignored even by the company itself. The promotional image to show the new cards being released was carefully scrutinized by fans, who discovered its origin from AI. WoTC responded by refuting the accusations, later going back on its word and apologizing.
