Do we need celebrity complaints to finally regularise a technology that is harming the entire population? According to the US Congress, yes. Following an increase in complaints from famous individuals and victims of misused deepfake technology, María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Madeleine Dean (D-PA) have proposed a bill called the 'No AI FRAUD Act'.

This law would establish legal definitions for 'likeness and voice rights', thus prohibiting the use of deepfakes aimed at non-consensually imitating another person.

Furthermore, in order to leave nothing to chance, there is a specific section in the proposal for the creation of pornographic videos by means of the previously mentioned artificial intelligence technology, the deepfake. It emphasises, in fact, that 'any digital representation or digital voice replica that includes child pornography, is sexually explicit or includes intimate images' meets the definition of harm under the law.
