Financial scams, or attempts at them, have always existed. The promise of money obtained free of charge would appeal to most people, the difference being in how one decides to act: there are those who dream of winning the lottery and those who decide to devote themselves to the art of fraud.

Deepfake technology has existed for years now, but seems to have gained considerable popularity in recent months, intensifying further during the early 2024. As a result of this rapid rise, British banks are shifting their attention towards the technology, pointing out the dangers it poses to the financial sphere and working to find solutions.

As its development progresses, very soon a high amount of online content will no longer be required to generate videos via deepfake technology, a point will be reached where a simple call will be enough to sample the victim's voice.
