Artificial intelligence is, no doubt, an extremely valuable tool in human hands - but its role ends within this definition: it is a mere tool, nothing more. As such, it rightly cannot be a patent holder of any kind, just as it cannot be a copyright holder.
Recently, the US patent office confirmed this clarification, emphasising, however, that humans are free to use artificial intelligence within the process of creating patented inventions - of course, it is crucial that they signal the presence of such a tool.
More precisely, the legislation states that a patent application, to be patentable, must consist for the most part of a substantial and significant human contribution; AI can be used as a support, not a substitute.
