A branch of the Romance Writers of America association recently experienced a curious artificial intelligence-related event. The Coeur Du Bois subgroup, based in Idaho, organised a workshop on writing romance novels, to be held on Zoom's platform on 2 March 2024 - one day before the event, however, the meeting was cancelled.

The workshop was the subject of controversy, as the main topic would not have been the writing of romance novels, but rather the use of artificial intelligence within the creative process dedicated to the conception of the latter. Once the online workshop was announced, thousands of authors felt mocked and expressed their opinions directly to those behind the project.

Romance Writers of America justified itself, explaining that the association's main goal is to support authors and help them by giving them methods and tools to be able to create. "We are aware that this is a serious issue, with strong opinions on both sides."
