During the month of February, one of the pillar companies of the US health insurance industry fell victim to an unprecedented cyber attack. Change Healthcare, the company in case, is fortunately recovering quickly from this breach: the services it offers are up and running again and the liquidity required to maintain them has not been irreparably affected - having said that, it is not to be taken for granted that the situation is so easily managed by smaller clinics.

In the wake of the recent hacker attack, the main focus has shifted from the plight of the giant companies to the situation in which smaller companies find themselves, in serious need of support in order to secure their business: smaller providers in rural areas are in dire need of cash assistance.

The  attack on the 21st of February forced Change Healthcare to temporarily shut down the computer systems handling all electronic payments and insurance claims - until 15 March, when 99% of the company's services were back online.
