FTC investigating TikTok over privacy and security.

The Tiktok saga continues: in recent months, the Chinese platform has been subjected to a series of investigations and accusations, but the situation seems to be getting worse and worse. Officially regarded as a threat to US citizens by the House of Representatives, there has recently been a proposal to ban the application in the United States.

Recently, the Federal Trade Commission also began investigating the platform's data and security practices, focusing its analysis on a potential violation of a section of the FTC Act - a law prohibiting 'unfair or deceptive' business practices.

During 2022, Tiktok had admitted before Congress that employees based in China had access to US user data, a detail that would go directly against what it stated in its defence in the FTC Act violation charge, in which it denied that the platform's user data could be accessed by people in China.
