In today's digital age, it is crucial to protect users of online platforms from the enormous amount of misinformation that occupies the homepage of one's digital window on the world on a daily basis. False information encountered ‘on the Internet’ is often assumed to be correct, inevitably leading to misleading consequences.

The European Union is approaching the upcoming election period with a measure of caution with regard to the digital universe: in fact, an investigation is currently underway into Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Whatsapp; the aim of which is to determine what measures have been taken by the company to combat the spread of misinformation on its platforms.

The main focus of the investigation concerns, more precisely, the handling of advertising and content published by fraudsters, as well as potential foreign election interference.
