Tiktok is no longer the beloved platform dedicated to dancing, funny voice-overs and short funny clips of little animals. In recent years, the average content of the platform has expanded considerably, mainly due to the introduction of videos of a longer duration. Storytimes, makeup tutorials and vlogs of various genres now dominate the for-you-pages of billions of users.

The platform has recently come into the crosshairs of the US government, especially following a bill introduced by President Biden last April: Tiktok's parent company, the Chinese company Bytedance, has until 19 January 2025 to sell its stake to an authorised buyer. The move in question underlines a major fear: the app could pose a threat to US national security.

Tiktok, in response to the aforementioned stance, stated that ‘the law is unconstitutional and impossible to implement’, also pointing out that the government's moves go directly against freedom of speech.
